I'm so sad that she won't breastfeed anymore! I think it all started when my husband's family came to visit when she was a month old. I started pumping alot and giving her alot of bottles and basically just breastfeeding her at her nightime feeding because I didn't want to always be taking the baby since it was their first time seeing her and they were only getting to see her for a week. Well, after they left I was still pumping here and there but breastfeeding also and she was doing fine. Then I got mastitis :( I was misled and thought that I shouldn't be feeding her my milk so I stopped breastfeeding her and was "pumping and dumping" and giving her formula. By the time I realized I could give her my breastmilk and she'd be fine, she didn't want the breast anymore. I have been trying ever since then and she'll latch on for a little bit but then just spit it out and get frustrated. So, I'm pumping about 5 times a day now and having to give it to her in a bottle. I tried to get her to latch on on my bare breast today (I usually use a nipple shield) and she definitely wasn't having that! I don't think I'm ready to completely give up on it though so I'll still be trying to get her to feed on the shield at least. Does anyone have any advice?
Try making an appointment at your local hospital with a lactation consultant. They give really great advice/help. And don't give up! :)
ReplyDeleteI would contact your local lactation consultant!
ReplyDeleteI have heard that doing a lot of skin on skin time can help with latch. When Kaleb wouldn't latch I would give him a bottle for a few sucks then put him on the breast. It worked.
Good luck, I hope your breast feeding relationship isn't over so soon :(
just keep trying- maybe squeeze some milk out and then try to get her to latch on- it was REALLY hard for us to move past the nipple shield- i just kept trying and trying... and WOULD NOT give her anything else- eventually she was just so hungry she started sucking- and has been great ever since- sorry your going thru this... but even if you dont get back in the swing of things- at least you did it for the first month or so!!! =) GOOD LUCK GIRL!!! *btw- she is just sooooo cute!*
ReplyDeleteShe is so adorable. Abigail has been taking breastmilk from a bottle pretty much exclusively since she was 4 weeks old. I had too much milk and it was coming out too fast and choking her. So we tried the bottle and it worked. She still breastfeeds if I can't get the bottle ready quick enough. But good luck, the only suggestion I have is to try to express some milk before getting her to latch on. I know that helped for us for a while.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice ladies :)
